Raju Durshettiwars’ work is categorized in non-representational abstraction. Here, the total existence of the work is based on the appreciation of its various elements like color, lines, textures, etc. Here it has evolved significant form either in terms of lines & colors, without representing any object or existence, specifically.
Abstraction is not just coloring, hatching or texturing. It is not as simple as usually perceived. It is not just an application of brush strokes, but on the contrary, it the process that artists involve & evolve, with their experiences. Then, this is integrated on the surface with formal elements such as colors & lines, in addition to texture & layering.
Raju's manifestation is also evolved on the same conceptual background. His lyricism is achieved with absolute control of colors & lines. There is an expression of forms with integrating space with well defined volume of colors. His work progresses with linear configuration. Permutation of few bold strokes, spontaneous scraped lines are dominant. Volume of color, well defined lines, controlled strokes, multiple layering quite resemble in the work.
His work is based on architectural forms. Though it is not so specific in the work, its existence can be felt. It has been manifested through various dimensions with diverse perception. Few predominant elements of architecture like staircases, arches, triangles & grids are quite resembling in the work. Various tonal applications are in perfect control. Usually, each work is in monochrome, and application of other colors with varying degrees is in absolute balance.
Raju does not paint his canvas on Easel; rather he spreads his canvas on the floor, leaving the space all around, so that he can gaze through each side & each angle of his confined space, confronting with the space bit by bit, inch by inch. This meditation process starts with well defined stroke at right spot on the canvas & thereafter, the process evolves with creation, philosophical negotiation, visual perception & formal configuration with the right texture & velocity of color.
According to him, each work is a process; it is a foundation for the next work. Each work has its own existence with exploring space. Each canvas is a meditation process for him. Each work is an exploration & expression of his mind and heart. He is influenced by many outstanding dedicated artists such as Ambadas, Kolte, J. Swaminathan, Gaitonde & many more, of his artist family. He does not prefer to talk on his painting; rather he leaves it to be negotiated & understood by viewers.
The present body of his work is to define the space with new perception. It is not just a representational outline of an intellectual negotiation. It questions the space & holds forth a fundamental argument with series of permutations & configurations caused due to overlapping structures. Colors & forms has an excellent matrix, evolving new spatial composition with the passing of each moment during his expression process.
In this act of creation, shapeless gets molded & transformed into a defined form. To sound the space, to conquest the depth is the most valued task of painting. The forms & colors control themselves to probe & synthesize meaning into a radical order and step by step, the space gets defined.
